Why choose this course?

This 240 credit undergraduate Business programme in Marketing Studies is designed to develop academic knowledge and understanding, plus practical application, of the role and function of the marketing industry. As a student on this programme you will be encouraged to appraise and understand marketing practices and theories, appraise and develop relevant strategies and initiatives, and to explore these matters through discussion and topical debate with your peers. 

In order to achieve this qualification, graduates should have developed a working knowledge of the principles and application of marketing theory and practice, and with this there is the opportunity to embark on a professional career, or to progress onto achieving a full Bachelors. 

How is this program taught?

You will benefit from a variety of teaching and learning methods depending upon your chosen mode of study, including: lectures, seminars, practical assignments, group activities, personal research and case studies. Personal and group study, and independent research, are integral in studying this course, helping you to develop the transferrable skills that you will need in the workplace.

Depending upon your chosen mode of study, some or all modules include web and digital based elements to promote the flexibility of today’s progressive study environment.  Marketing students are often required to engage with industry networks in order to complete assessments, and to show understanding and aptitude of the relevant principles and theories.

Formal hours of study usually range from 12-16hrs per week, with full-time campus students undertaking some additional hours of classroom engagement, whilst distance-learning students should engage in additional research and project work.

How will I be assessed?

A comprehensive range of assessment practices are used, including reports on the dissemination and critical assessment of marketing practices, oral presentations, group engagement, and research for understanding appropriate application of theory and strategy . Examinations are not a typical form of assessment, as evidence-based project work to show your ability to understand and apply the relevant knowledge and skills is a more effective form of learning and assessment in the creative world of business marketing.

If you choose to progress to university for the remaining stages of your Degree studies, you may find a varied approach to assessment which will ultimately develop your abilities even further.

Hours & credits

This 2-year undergraduate-pathway program is 240 credits, which is the first 2 years of the 360 credit Bachelor’s Degree.   The number of hours generally required for study and project work is 960 direct learning hours for the full program (2 years if studied full-time, or longer if studied part-time).  Additional research and revision time is usual when undertaking studies at this level.

If you progress complete a Degree with one of our partner universities you will undertake the final 120 credits to receive the full Bachelors.

Entry requirements

For direct entry into the 2-year level 5 program you should usually have the below qualifications or an equivalent:

-          UK A-levels

-          International Baccalaureate

-          An international equivalent

For students who have the equivalent of the GCSE (or iGCSE) level qualification, or if you didn’t achieve satisfactory pass grades in senior school, and need to complete a Foundation Year, you may enrol into the intensive first-year Foundation program to gain the initial 120 credits.  Successful completion of this program allows you enter directly into the 2nd year of the course, and to carry those credits across.

To progress into the final year of the Bachelors Degree with a partner university you must also meet their respective entry requirements, such as satisfactory grades in your first 2 years of study with Axial, and the requisite English language ability for your chosen course of study (each university has individual requirements, and details can be provided to students at the time of their initial application to Axial).

Where will this course take me?

Students who undertake undergraduate studies in Business Marketing will be able to pursue a career at various levels within this sector.  Graduates may continue on a study pathway, through the BA Hons qualification and into a Postgraduate Degree in a related field.  For those students who want to move directly into the workplace, the practical style of learning, in addition to the underpinning theory delivered to students, puts holders of the UK level 5 award in a good position to immediately apply their skills in a range of positions. 

You may also have the opportunity to study abroad, if you select an international campus of Axial or of one of our university partners.  This could take you to the Middle East, Cyprus, or even as far as Africa.  Students who attend an Axial International Study Centre in a growing number of locations around the world may also consider options for completing the final phase of their studies right here in London!

Fees

2015/16 tuition fees vary depending upon location, and whether you study on campus or by distance. Distance learning fees start at just £199 per subject (for the 16 subject level 5 programme).  We also offer an initial enrolment-pack, which gets you enrolled as a distance-learning student with Axial and registered on the UK system, plus your first unit fees and learning material, for £549 (includes a tablet PC set up for e-Learning, all application fees, Awarding-Body registration, and tuition fees for Unit-1).

The programme content comprises a mix of specialised knowledge and practices, combined with both the fundamental and progressive principles of business, to ensure you’ll have the awareness and skills to succeed in the Marketing sector.

Business Environment HDBM-1 15
Organisations have a variety of purposes that depend on why they were established. Some operate for profit, whilst others do not. Business entities structure themselves and operate in ways that allow their objectives to be met, and the aim of this unit is to provide learners with an understanding of different types of organisations, the influence of stakeholders, and the relationship between businesses and the local, national and global environments.
Managing Financial Resources & Decisions HDBM-2 15
This unit is designed to give learners a broad understanding of the sources and availability of finance for a business organisation, and students will learn how to evaluate these different sources and compare how they are used. The course will provide an understanding of where and how to access sources of finance for a business, as well as the skills necessary to use financial information for decision making.
Organisational Behaviour HDBM-3 15
This unit explores the behaviour of individuals and groups within organisations, and examines current theories and their application in managing behaviour in the workplace. It also examines the links between the structure and culture of organisations and how these influence the behaviour of the workforce, and the ways in which an organisation structures and organises its workforce for a positive impact on the culture to develop within the organisation.
Marketing Principles HDBM-4 15
This is a broad-based unit which gives students the opportunity apply the key principles of Marketing, and aims to provide learners with understanding and skills relating to the fundamental concepts and principles that underpin the marketing process. Students will consider the use of environmental analysis in marketing; they will investigate the importance of market segmentation and how this leads to the identification and full specification of target groups, and; they will consider buyer behaviour and positioning.
Research Project HNDM-5 20

This unit is designed to introduce learners to the techniques and methods of research. The unit addresses a variety of research methodologies, including the opportunity to carry out interventionist or action research.

 

Learners will be required to produce a project report based on independent research into an area of professional business practice that interests them and will add to their professional development.

 

You should use both primary and secondary sources of information, and should be an exploration of a current major issue. The study undertaken should build on knowledge, skills and understanding that have been achieved in other units.
